Liver biopsy

The procedure of taking out (sampling) a small amount of liver piece to see it under the microscope is called a biopsy procedure. This test helps us in diagnosing various liver disorders.

The procedure is simple. After sedation/anesthesia (usually in adults this is done consciously), through a special needle, a piece of liver tissue is taken out (usually under ultrasound guidance) and tested for various things (routine H & E, special stains, liver dry copper). It is a day care procedure and the child can be discharged in 24 hours.
