Advanced ERCP Services

Advanced ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) services are specialized programs that focus on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the biliary and pancreatic systems. ERCP is a minimally invasive procedure that combines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to visualize and treat the bile and pancreatic ducts.

Here are some common advanced ERCP services:

  1. Diagnostic ERCP: Diagnostic ERCP is used to identify the underlying cause of symptoms such as abdominal pain, jaundice, or abnormal liver function tests. During the procedure, a flexible tube with a camera is inserted through the mouth and guided into the duodenum. Contrast dye is then injected into the bile and pancreatic ducts to visualize any abnormalities.

  2. Therapeutic ERCP: Therapeutic ERCP is used to treat disorders of the biliary and pancreatic systems, such as gallstones, biliary strictures, or pancreatic duct obstruction. Treatment may include removal of stones, placement of stents to open blocked ducts, or dilation of strictures.

  3. SpyGlass® cholangioscopy: SpyGlass® cholangioscopy is a specialized technique that allows direct visualization of the bile ducts using a tiny camera inserted through the ERCP scope. This allows for improved visualization and diagnosis of biliary disorders.

  4. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS): EUS is a complementary technique that can be used to visualize and diagnose pancreatic and biliary disorders. It uses ultrasound to visualize the organs and surrounding structures and can be combined with ERCP to provide a more comprehensive evaluation.

  5. Multidisciplinary care: Advanced ERCP services are typically provided by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including gastroenterologists, interventional radiologists, and hepatobiliary surgeons. This team approach allows for a comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan tailored to the individual patient.
